How to Use Social Media to Promote Your Fundraiser

Take advantage of the various social media platforms to promote your fundraiser!

Promotion is a huge part of a fundraising campaign. The more people that are aware of your fundraiser, the more they can help you reach your goals. A virtual location where a lot of people meet and check continuously throughout the day is social media. These platforms provide the perfect opportunity to reach a large audience, with virtually no investment and not much time.

Facebook Event

Create an online home where your fundraiser lives. A Facebook event page is great because of the virtual community that it creates. It not only allows you, the administrator of the page, to share information, links, videos, and photos, but it also allows your team and people who have already participated to share their experiences as well. Those that you’ve already asked to contribute to the cause can also share the page with their Facebook friends, extending your reach to the community.

Instagram and Twitter Hashtag

Twitter and Instagram are both social media platforms that are known for their efficient use of the hashtag. Have your team come up with a catchy phrase or buzzword that people can search on these sites that will lead them directly to your fundraiser’s page. Hashtags are also great marketing tools that find their ways onto t-shirts, mugs, and other promotional materials. Your hashtag is also a quick way to remind people of your cause and fundraiser, especially when they use it to share photos and videos at your event.  

Sharing Contests

One way to get people excited about your fundraiser is free incentives. Host a contest centered on social media, by having people share your page or hashtag to enter a contest. The prize could be anything you like, but branded items associated with your organization, fundraiser, or the cause itself serve a dual purpose of being a prize for participants and more advertising for you.
