5 Tips For Helping Your Child With Their Fundraiser

There are all sorts of ways you can help your child with their fundraising efforts!

Some children are excited about fundraising and are eager to get the ball rolling! However, since children are unique with different strengths, weaknesses, and personalities, this may not be the case for all children. Whether your child is ready to sell or feeling shy, here are some tips to help motivate children and keep them on task during a fundraiser!

Make Sure Your Child Knows What They Are Selling And Why

Nobody expects a young child to be an expert in sales, but your child should be able to answer basic questions about their fundraiser, such as what they are fundraising money for. If the fundraiser involves selling items, your child should know what these things are and how much they cost, how to collect money, and when the buyer will get their items.

Don’t Be Your Child’s Only Customer

Especially for timid children, it can be tempting to make fundraising easy on them by buying up most of their products or offering too much help. While it is essential to support your child, if you are doing all the buying or selling for them they are not going to learn anything in the end.

Supervision Is Key

If your child is going to go door to door in your neighborhood trying to fundraise, it is important that they are appropriately supervised. Children, especially those who are very young, should not be left to roam unsupervised. You will be able to keep your child safe, on task, and motivated if they are not having much luck.

Suggest Teamwork

If it’s a class or school-wide fundraiser, there is a good chance that most of the students in your child’s class or school will be involved. Suggest they team up with a friend and work together to get sales. They can help keep each other motivated, especially if some healthy competition is fostered.

Ask Ahead

Ask your family or friends and see if any of them are interested in buying anything and if they say yes, point your child in their direction to make the sales themselves. Do not make sales for them.
